  • C&C Voicetracks

A number of years ago, I did some freelance audio production for Jim & Joanne Crossan when they were the morning drive DJs at WICC-AM radio in Bridgeport - now I'm their webmaster.

They got out of the DJ business and started a comedy-by-subscription service for DJs, The Morning Punch. They've been doing the Punch for over ten years, and have a loyal clientele.

Voicetracks was a new "virtual radio show" service they started in early 2000. A radical idea at the time, it was geared for stations that use a good deal of computer-driven audio gear to automate their broadcasts: Voicetracks subscribers would get pre-recorded C&C DJ segments which could be easily dropped into the stations' playlists. The segments were geared to fit existing programming schedules, and the material (particularly bumpers & station IDs) was tailored to the radio station and the surrounding area. Although pre-recorded, the segments were designed to sound as if C&C were there in the radio station's studio.

Unfortunately, the service did not catch on and although Jim kept the site up and available for a number of years, Voicetracks closed it doors in April of 2008.
