Firezine was at one time "The Official Digital Magazine of the Firesign
Theatre", published by Fred Wiebel. After having worked for some time on my own
Firesign Theatre Canonical irReference pages, I
took a look at Fred's early web site efforts (which were rough around the edges)
and offered my assistance. The Firezine site was one of my earliest efforts - the first version came online late winter 1997, a makeover & reorganization was done in spring of 1999. I was the sole webmaster up until that time, when Brian Westley and the late Lew Tebbets (of tinydrtim.com fame) jumped in and volunteered their time and talents. Firezine ceased publication in late 2000. In 2003, I handed off site maintenance to Cristofer Morley, who at one time had his own Firesign Theatre fan site and who has since incorporated his Mammoth Firesign FAQ into the Firezine site. He is also the webmaster of the Planet Proctor web site, an archive of newsletters (updated regularly) written by one of the founding members of the Firesign Theatre. It was on the strength of the work on my own Firesign fan site and the Firezine site that I was ginen the opportunity to work on the official Firesign Theatre site, firesigntheatre.com. Despite the demise of Firezine the magazine, and a subsequent falling-out between Fred and the group, Fred has since written a complete oral history and complete discography of the group in his new book Backward Into The Future: The Recorded History of the Firesign Theatre, published by Bear Manor Media. |
