a.k.a. the Mindless Fellowship Pavillion! images

Hello and welcome Dear Friends to the Audio Wing of the Mindless Fellowship Pavillion. Here you will find little audio snippets culled from the many Firesign Theatre albums, recordings and such - donated by both Doc Technical and others.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Some of the audio files on this page have been encoded using MPEG Layer 3 compression. If you experience problems playing these files, click here to find out what you probably need to do in order to play them.

Excerpt: The Firesign Theatre Hour Hour ('69-'70)

Thanks to a fellow firehead (who shall remain nameless so he doesn't get inundated with requests to make dupes), I came into possession of a cassette containing an installment of the "Firesign Theatre Hour Hour" series. These largely improvised shows were broadcast from 11/69 to 7/70 (thanks Fred); they followed the last of the Peter Bergman-hosted "Radio Free Oz" shows and predate "Dear Friends," the series from which the 2-LP Columbia release was culled. These were the first broadcasts featuring the four or five crazee guys billing themselves as The Firesign Theatre.

After digitizing the first five or so minutes of the broadcast, I cleaned it up as much as possible and installed it here in MPEG Layer 3 format. It's a very large file and will take some time to download via modem; forearmed is foreshadowed. Or something like that. Anyway, if you're a hardcore firehead or just curious, you owe it to yourself to listen to this little gem of audio majik.

This is the first in a projected series of audio files culled from the Firesign Theatre's Dear Friends radio series from the early '70s. No, these are not from the double-album Columbia release - these are from the actual shows, and were selected precisely because they are not available on the albums. They are encoded in Microsoft ADPCM 4-bit Mono format for faster download, smaller file size and to eliminate the possibility of some enterprising soul taking them off this site and attempting to sell them.

They are meant to be a teaser, to give you a little taste of the wonderful material these guys used to manufacture on-the-fly. The original recordings of the twelve one-hour Dear Friends shows must exist somewhere... perhaps these teasers might generate enough interest to coax the powers that be into releasing them as a 12-CD set, or as 12 individual volumes. This may be just a pipe dream of mine - than again, who knows?

This group of files were submitted by N. K., a 16-year-old budding firehead who was kind enough to forward this generous batch of audio files culled from Nick Danger and How Can You Be... for your enjoyment. We welcome him to the fold and thank him very much for sharing. To get the file sizes down a bit, we converted them from 22kHz Stereo to 11kHz Mono. Email me if you would like to obtain copies of the master files.

So far, the only Firesign he's heard is HCYB and the Dear Friends compilation. What will he make of Don't Crush That Dwarf... or Bozos? The mind reels at the thought.

The next group of files you see here were submitted recently by a Mr. UhClem who lists his address as "The Shadows." We greatly appreciate his willingness to share these with us, and apologize for taking so long in getting them up on this site. Here they are, in all their fiery glory:
